Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, necessary x-rays, oral cancer screening , tempromandibular joint exam , full diagnosis and treatment recommendations . Oral cancer screenings now are done with Velscope. This is state of the art technology in early detection of any abnormalities and lesions. Our office has digital x- rays and a digital panoramic machine - this x ray takes a picture of your jaws, joints, sinuses, and third molars. We also have computers in every operatory, so the patient and doctor can evaluate the findings in real time. We also have CAESY, this is an educational video. Our office offers nitrous oxide/laughing gas for patients who need to take the " edge off".
It is general dentistry and more. It has the added dimension of art. There are all the functional requirements, and, in addition, the dentist must pay close attention to the appearance of the dental work. Doing this requires special materials. Ceramic and composite technology has advanced to the point where beautiful AND durable dental work can be provided to each patient.
But there is so much extra training involved in learning how to use these highly advanced materials properly, that only those dentists who are truly passionate about the appearance of their work take the time away from the office and spend the money required.
There are many situations that do not require root canal therapy (Endodontics), or where root canal therapy may be one of several options. For this reason, we typically request that a consultation visit be scheduled in order that your relevant medical and dental history be reviewed and that your unique situation be considered in recommending appropriate treatment options.
consultation is the beginning process of every procedure. A clinical and radiographic examination (x-rays) is performed to determine if endodontic therapy is necessary, if there are special treatment considerations and if the tooth is restorable by your general dentist after the treatment is completed. Radiographs are displayed on patient monitors to explain each specific recommended treatment plan. Radiograph drawings are created to achieve clear communication about the patients individual case. All images created during the initial consultation are stored in the patients digital chart for future reference.
Dr.Shifrin will be happy to answer any of your questions, at this time, about the cause of your endodontic problem, the treatment sequence and the course of healing. Endodontic treatment is normally completed in one visit, but may require up to three seperate appointments to complete the treatment.
Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth. Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal. When decay in a tooth has become so advanced that large portions of the tooth must be removed, crowns are often used to restore the tooth.
When a patient’s mouth lacks bone as well as teeth, bone grafting, or the addition of bone, is required before an implant can be placed. Bone grafts come from a specific part of the body (autogenous bone), tissue banks (allografts), or synthetically (alloplast). We place the graft into the area of your jaw that requires more bone tissue, and your body will accept the graft and replace it with the bodies own natural bone and eventually dissolve the graft material. Once the bone is mature, Dr.Shifrin can proceed with implant placement.
Get rid of stains, chips and cracks with dental bonding and contouring. Cover imperfections with aesthetic dental techniques.
If stains, chips and cracks are keeping the world from seeing you smile, we can help.
Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored material is applied layer by artistic layer to the surface of the tooth. Dental bonding covers discoloration, repairs chips, breaks and cracks, and closes gaps between teeth.
A composite resin filling may be used when only a small amount of tooth structure needs replacement.
Dental bonding and contouring is one of the most conservative, versatile and affordable ways to aesthetically restore a multitude of cosmetic problems. You may be surprised how easy it is!
Dentures are removable for comfort and easy cleaning, and make a world of difference in your appearance.
Apartial denture is recommended when patients are missing some teeth, but wish to keep and protect remaining teeth, Those who have few natural teeth left and wish to replace all their teeth use full dentures.
Dr. Shifrin's team carefully crafts your tooth replacements for a very natural look. They’re created from acrylic materials to integrate well into your mouth, so your new replacement teeth are not easily distinguishable from your natural smile.
Your teeth are important to your general well-being. When saving natural teeth is not always an option, dentures can help you fill the void and improve your eating and speaking abilities. Losing teeth does not have to mean compromising your smile.
